Day one: Creating possibilities onto sheets of watercolor paper. Glazing, stamping, stenciling etc… to your hearts content, alternating between two large 90 lb w/c sheets allowing each to dry between coats. Having two sheets on the go enables you to create two completely different patterned papers, somewhat "excercising" your creative spirit by allowing the materials to "do what they will". The class size is small (8 max) and you are encouraged to discuss and observe what the others in the room are discovering on this first day.
Day two: Taking a close look at what you have by blocking areas and searching for what "speaks" to you. Sometimes the paper will show what it wants to be, and other times you may have an idea and search for the perfect placement area. Just the fact that you can work from those two different directions keeps the urge to form a habit "at bay".
I will supply reference material. You will be using ink, gesso and acrylic glazes to work up your piece. You may come away with a handful of possibilities or only a few, depending on the speed you like to work.

This particular piece was inspired by my very own family of sunflowers which sprout as volunteers every year from the seeds that are left behind from the year before. I am rather attached to this painting as it is close to my heart. Cancer is close to my heart as it has taken those most near and dear to me, friends and family and I too am a cancer survivor, having recently undergone steps to prevent ovarian cancer myself. This is a great cause. Check out their website for more information or to purchase tickets for the luncheon. It is going to be quite a classy affair! www.thelunch.ca .
