This summer a woman visiting my gallery left her email address because she was really interested in a painting I was working on and wanted me to contact her when it was finished. She was an elementary school teacher and the subject matter resonated with her. I finally finished the piece yesterday and sent the image off to her and received a "delivery status failure" in my email inbox. What a disappointment. Not for the fact that she may have been a buyer, but for the fact that she was genuinely interested in viewing the finished piece. I will also be making cards of the image, so if she had not purchased the painting, she may have liked some cards. I will post the painting here, so Mona? if you are reading this? The painting is finished!

The two day workshop I facilitated went really well. I am totally exhausted! I had four artists join me and we spent 10 hours over the two days painting and exploring options with ink and acrylic. Everyone seemed to be happy!
I am going to hold another workshop on the 15th and 16th of October. I am not sure yet as to what it will be, but I am leaning towards "Rich Under Paintings and Coastal Landscapes". I already have three people interested, and I have a cap of 6 students as my studio is not very large. It will be interesting what kind of feedback I will get when I actually advertise.
I have not been able to get into my new working area since I returned from Saskatchewan. Between Granddaughter, working at TOSH, and teaching the workshop I have not even begun to think about painting at my easel. Hopefully on Wednesday I will be able to get back to work. This summer has been brutal as far as taking me away from my studio.
I need to finish a 5 or 6 piece commission for a client who hired me to do a series of ink and watercolor paintings of their home and property. I have 5 finished, but would like to go back one more time to see the fall colors on some of the trees.
Also I am working on painting for someone from one of those old photos taken on the street either in Vancouver or Victoria. It is of his mother and small brothers. All I have to work from is a photocopy. Now that is a challenge, but so far so good.
Well, I had better go and either turn on the furnace or put a sweater and fuzzy socks on...Fall is definitely here!

Demo at DeCosmos
Today I did a one hour demo for the DeCosmos art group in Parkville. I have to tell you, I was so nervous! My hands were shaking, my heart was beating and I was sweating terribly. For years I have been terrified to be in front of a large room full of people...But I did it! It wasnt so bad after all! And to top it off, I had fun! I just dug into what I was doing, babbled away as much information as I could think of, and decided just to be myself. Who else could I be? I could see people scribbling in their notebooks, and I managed to get a chuckle or two from the room. I had quite a few people come up to me afterwards and tell me it was one of the best demos they had been at. Really??? Wow. That is great. I have so much to show people. There is so much information in this head of mine. I am so happy that people value that information. I am tapping into the energy I had as a child in elementary school. I loved show and tell. Standing in front of the room with some kind of object, telling some kind of story to the whole classroom. It used to be my favorite part of school. Then I got shy in about grade 5 and have been terrified ever since. Not sure why, but it is sure nice to have that confidence back again!

I am looking forward to teaching monthly workshops now that I have the whole studio to myself. I just have to work up a schedule. Landscapes with underpaintings, working with pencil and gesso, still life painting, still life drawing maybe....If anyone is interested in any of these classes, let me know. My class sizes are limited 6-8 seats as my studio is small.

I am at the end of a wonderful week at my good friends in Big River, Saskatchewan. Unfortunately I am down to my last two days. I have painted and canoed to my hearts content. I cannot believe how many beautiful lakes there are up here! Lucky thing for me though, the bugs seem to have gone and it is a great time of year to be up here. My friend has opened up a little picture framing shop and gallery beside the post office in town and I wanted to get some of my little ink and watercolors of local scenes for her to put on the wall. I have three I am happy with, and I am sure I will work up a few more when I get home. I managed to do many thumbnail sketches of the area, and plan on getting a few more before I leave. It is so nice to explore a new landscape. I am so spoiled though, living on the island, but can totally appreciate the scenes I have found. My only problem is that my world is constantly moving. First the plane ride, then the long hours as a passenger in a car, and then the canoe. I am sitting here at the table and the house is still rocking. It will probably take me a week or so after I get home before it stops. No problem though....I have gravol!!
