Forest Lanterns was inspired by one of my retreats on Cortes Island. I was walking the trail behind the cabin one morning and the light filtering through lit up the little circular flowers like tiny little lanterns. I sat and sketched and was fortunate enough to witness a squirrel come out of its hiding place, snatch one of these little flowers, roll it around in its little paws and munch away on its sweet nectar.
My other painting "Calling Wisdom" was also juried into the show.
This painting was inspired by a beautiful gnarly tree on Cortes Island. The title comes from a Tibetan meditation song I listen to while painting. They just seemed to go together!
I sold my painting "Baynes Sound NW" yesterday. I was very happy about that! Turns out the purchaser farms a shellfish lease just to the left of the scene and this is the view he sees every day he is at work. What a beautiful place to work I think!
