The beginning of a new painting year!

Fall feels like the beginning of the year and I am working to get back into my studio on a regular basis.  August was stinking hot and my little air conditioner helped but my biggest problem was acrylic paint drying too fast.  The air movement, be it cooler, still managed to dry the paint on my palette before I could finish with whatever mixture I was using.  It is nice to get some rain and moisture back into the air for the forests as well as my paint.

Along with getting back into the studio I have a vegetable garden, apple and a pear tree to deal with before the bears find it.  Its a waiting game.  As soon as the apples get a scent, I pick them.  Hopefully I am first in line.  Then theres garlic to plant, straw to put on the garden beds for winter, fruit to process, sauerkraut to make etc…Time to get back to painting at 5 AM to fit everything in.  Too many distractions!

Yesterday I cleaned up my workspace and almost finished a large 24x48 forest painting I had started months ago.  I purchased 3 -16x40 canvases last week and am working some Mount Washington trees onto two of them so far.   I did up some sketches while on a 4 day retreat to the Mt Washington meadows in August with a group of wonderful artists.  What a beautiful location to paint! All this time I have lived here and I never knew the meadows existed.  The Island is full of amazing gems tucked away here and there.  I live in a very special place.

As for this special place I have made a decision for now  to keep my artwork in galleries on Vancouver Island.  I think it is fitting for what I do.  I just don't have the energy to seek out representation further out and would rather paint and sell at home.  I may do a show here and there, like the Art Vancouver exhibition but am happiest on the island growing my skills.  Being a signature member of the Society of Canadian Artists gives me a little reach across the country but really…I just want to paint, and so far my garage is not filling up with my paintings so it seems to be working for me.

The galleries that represent me On Vancouver Island are as follows:

Salish Sea Market, Bowser

The Old School House Arts Centre, Qualicum Beach

Reflecting Spirit Gallery, Ucluelet

The Village Gallery, Sidney

Curate Gallery and Workshop, Cadboro Bay Victoria

my cards are sold in these locations as well:

Artisans Garden, Sooke

Mid Island Gifts, Comox airport

I will be back soon with upcoming show information!
