My epiphany!

According to the online Merriam Webster dictionary:

(1):usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something (2) : an intuitive grasp of reality through something (as an event) usually simple and striking (3) : an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure…

The other day while ordering my twice weekly latte, I stood there deciding what to have this time. Soy? Regular milk? Small or medium? vanilla shot? Half caf? Decaf? Regular caf? After making my decision I watched the barista create my choice and I asked her if most people have the same drink each time they come in. She said that most customers have their consistent orders. Hmmm…I thought.

So meanwhile, back at the studio while looking over my many paintings I had my epiphany! My acrylic paint is my "Latte" and the many styles and subjects are choice of the "day" depending on my mood!

It's who I am. I will have to think on that for a bit, and rather than attempt to be someone I am not, make it work for me.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s been working perfectly for you for a long time! Jul 03, 2011 01:11

That depends on what a person is trying to achieve. We are told over and over again by the "powers that be" of the art world that we need to have a consistent style, to be able to go to a gallery with a strong collection of work that is a cohesive unit. From that point of view, it is not working for me so well. I plan on working on that shortcoming, but am not going to dwell on it so much. Jul 03, 2011 02:59
