A new Gallery!

This coming saturday, June 17th is the official opening of "Curate Gallery and Workshop" 3830 Cadboro Bay Road from 10-2.  I will be taking the drive down island to share in this celebration.  Michelle and Craig have been very supportive of my painting over the last few years and will be showing their selection of my work on what they jokingly call "The Mawle Wall".  You will also find works by Ken Kirkby, Nana Cook  Lisa Reihl amongst other Island painters  as well as pottery and unique items handcrafted  by Island artisans. I can hardely wait!  Hope to see you there!

I am also pleased to announce that I have had one of my large barnwood pieces juried into the 2017 Sooke Fine Arts Show which will be held this year from July 28th to Aug 7th.  For more information go to http://sookefinearts.com .

The business of May is behind me now!

Ahhhh! June is here!

May started with the central island studio tour which was fun.  I will think more seriously about being a part of the tour next year in my own studio.  Trick is to get enough artists in my general area interested to draw the people out.

I taught art classes in May for 4 tuesdays.  The format worked great last year, one full day then 3 half days to help everyone stay on track.  As in the first year most participants were happy with the results. I enjoy teaching but its the disruption of my studio and supplies that get to me.  I am not the most organized person.   I teach one or maybe two workshops a year.  I have a set rate and if someone finds the place and the people (max 10) I will show up.

I joined a group of artists for a retreat on Hornby Island for four days mid May.  If you are ever thinking of having a group retreat/reunion, I highly recommend the Hornby Island Diving School.  Great location, delicious meals and wonderful hosts.  I painted up some little ink and watercolour sketches and took photos to work from in my studio later on.  I am itching to get back to work!

Last and definitely not least was Art! Vancouver.  It was a huge success for me this year.  The first opening/preview night I sold 3 paintings.  It was very exciting that most everyone understood what I have been striving to express, the 'calming Island feeling".  I saw it from a different perspective myself after driving in traffic each day to get to the show. I would stand in front of my paintings, breathe and relax into my space ready for the days work.  Many people expressed an interest in my work and I expect to hear from some in the future.  At the end of the day I donated a percentage of my sales to the Battered Womens Shelter Society which made it that much more rewarding, something I will be sure to do for other causes in the future when I sell work directly.

Now to get organized and back into the studio!!
