Island Dweller Series
Recently I have an inner struggling going on while watching the development happening on Vancouver Island. While I understand the need for space to live in this amazing place, I feel we are slowly losing what makes it so amazing and attractive to newcomers in the first place. I am also part of this human race, I consume wood and paper products, live in a wooden house, benefit from "progress", have a cleared area where I live etc etc... so I understand the footprint we all make. Out of this confusing and upsetting place I struggle with I have found some joy within these whimsical little paintings. As I create each scene they fill me with a sense of childlike wonder and discovery. They comfort me and I absolutely LOVE to paint them, more than anything else I have ever worked on. I have always been an imaginative story teller by nature, and I miss that part of my creative self when I paint...until now. The idea of the Island Dwellers fill my well of imagination and I am able to slip in messages unnoticed (or noticed?), with a splash of humour if needed. I can tap into the past, present and future. Its just a little escape...we all need it once in awhile.
